Re: Fair enough. I just thought that you

Murph; I've had a miniature battery operated black light for chips some years ago. Bought it from Robert Eisenstadt (whatever happend to him?) at an A.C. Chapter meeting awhile back. The uv light I recently purchased a short time ago was an electric 110v version and I had recommended to those who were considering purchasing a black light, to go flourescent tube ... not incadescent.

In fact, it was Jim Whittaker who brought to my attention the uv markings on various regular issue A.C. chips several years ago. They were sort of "blah" then and it was only more recently when the different sizes and colors and POSITIONS of uv markings started turning up that convinced me not to get involved too seriously with cataloging uv's.

To illustrate various u.v.'s on hundreds of chips in a catalog presents another problem as far a sheer numbers go. There would be a "new" position reported everyday on one chip or another. Can you imagine a yellow uv reported at 2 o'clock on chip "A"; with a follow up report ... "I found a H&C uv at 7 o'clock, but it is phosphorus green, not yellow".... then comes another, "the uv on my chip "A" is smaller and appears at 10 o'clock and is white?" Plus, personally, I can't envision hundreds of collectors walking around the bourse floor with battery operated flourescent lights and magnifying glasses looking for new uv variations.... but then, that's my opinion.

No thanks. I think I'll stick to the tried and true KISS principle. (Keep It Simple Stupid)
