CALIF. CARDROOM VARIATION

Last week I bought a couple of chips from a cardroom that operated in the National Hotel, Jackson, California. The reason I got them was because one chip had the patch glued over the center with a 50 cent denom. and the other had the patch gone showing the original 25 cents. Later, while looking at the Chipguides web page showing Calif. cardroom chips, I noticed the apostrophe in the abbriviation of NAT'L was NA'TL. So I removed the patch from my other chip and it had the other variation.
Can anyone tell me if this is a common variation in this chip. Do you think they saw this error and put the patch over the centers to hide it? Was it ever used as a 25 cent chip? Thanks for any info.
