Victor, it depends....
In Response To: Autographed Chip Question ()

If you look in the TCR (#8) under Four Queens, there are two references to the Oscar Goodman $5 LE. One with and one without an autograph. The value difference is a C vs. H. However, I suspect that that difference is only germaine with chip collectors.

For autograph collectors there are other issues at play. Is the autograph real? There is a service out there (which draws a close parable to slabbing) that certifies/validates autographs (for a fee) and then issue a certificate of authenticity.

I suspect that the two chips I got autographed by Bill Meddley would stand-up to the certifying standards of such a firm, because they would compare the autographs on the chips to an autograph done on a piece a paper, or better sample.

The value of a Bill Meddley autograph (in great condition) is probably not vey much (nor is an Oscar Goodman), to an autograph collector, but to chips collectors there is, especially when the signer is depicted on the chip, or has an association to gaming or Las Vegas (or Atlantic City, etc.).

In my travels (between Los Angels and Tucson, and Las Vegas and Tucson, and Los Angeles and Las Vegas) I tend to run intoi these people so I alsway carry a Sharpie and a chip with me. But I do it as a lark (although I did just trade a $5 Bobby Vee (on his Riviera issued LE) for a $5 Dick Williams (on his Fiesta $5 LE). That chip included a Certificate of Authenticity. My chip on the other hand requires a statement from the person who acquired the autograph to state the date, circumstances, etc., about how the autograph was gotten.

Anyway, getting the autograhps on chips (to me) just seems like fun and a challenge.

Beware the affects of Slippery Slope!
