Welcome to the board and the hobby, Rick. My best advice is to read this board every day. You'll learn things here and pick up links to web sites that will be invaluable to your collecting knowledge. Most of the folks who post here will post a link to their collections or their web pages, many of which will have pictures of chips that you won't see anywhere else.
Once you think you're serious about collecting, you will want to pick up a book or two about the area of chip collecting that you want to concentrate on. I have several, and they're all great, and some of them written by people that post regularly on this board.
