Tonight in NYC

Just watching the highlights on ESPN gave me goosebumps. It was quite a showing, and it made ME proud to be a New Yorker (even though I live several thousand miles away now). The ovations at the beginning of the game, and for Liza in the 7th, were spectacular. And when the Pizza Man crossed the plate in the 8th, you woulda thought that the Amazins just won the series! New York needed a night like tonight.

Here on the wrong coast, we have our own problems. As you may have heard, the FBI has received word that Hollywood's movie studios are targets for "retaliation" in the event of military actions against Afghanistan. I can tell you first hand that Sony Studios is taking this VERY seriously. Security has been quadrupled - and the officers now carry guns. Only a single gate to the studio is now open, the rest are closed. EVERY car that enters gets searched, trunk and cabin - the security guard that I've goofed around with every morning for years asked me to open my trunk this morning!

All packages are being x-rayed, messengers are not allowed in the buildings. They've stopped production of "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" because they involve live studio audiences. Next week, they are erecting concrete barriers to maintain a perimeter around the entire studio!

On a lighter note, Sony Pictures Entertainment's entire computer network was infected with the NIMDA virus. We've had no internet access since Tuesday, and the anti-virus fix does wonders for laptops (I spent an hour today fixing what the virus fix screwed up). And the regular network was operating at about 1/5th speed. They say that only about 1/3 of the company's computers have been anti-virused to far, so internet access is not imminent.

Just another week in paradise. vbg
