Who WE Are

I've noticed that Gordon Sinclair's broadcast transcripts (America: The Good Neighbor) have been posted here by several folks in the last couple days. I heard an audio tape of the original broadcast on the radio this morning on the way to work. Hearing his words as he spoke them then was even more moving than just reading them. I think he'd be surprised to find out that he is still being quoted more than 20 years after he spoke those words, and I'm sure that he'd be in a state of disbelief that his words still apply today.

The mixture of emotions that we ALL have been dealing with over the last couple days is just the beginning. It's not over by any stretch of the imagination. We will all deal with what has happened in the way that is best for each of us. It's a different process for us all as individual human beings. That said, as a nation, this atrocity should and shall be dealt with in unity, we are all one when attacked as we just were.

Leonard Pitts Jr. wrote an article for the Miami Herald published yesterday that pretty much sums up my feelings about what has happened. It is very worthwhile reading, here's a link.

A closing thought...the people who carried out these acts of war were, for the most part children, when Gordon Sinclair made his famous broadcast. They were raised to hate, they were raised to believe that carrying out a suicide mission against America is/was their reason for living. There are children being taught the same things today.
