These are roulette chips from the famous Harolds Club in Reno, NV. The chips were used in the casino in the 1950's. They are apparently plentiful in supply because they are rated in The Chip Rack as "B" value chips, $3 to $4 each. They probably have much greater sentimental value and are worth keeping as a memory of your father.
