If this was an Ebay transaction file your Ebay fraud/insurance claim now as I believe you only have 60 days from end of auction.

Postal Insurance is an awful purchase, If you are shipping a lot of stuff you might look into third party postal insurance. The Post Office charges too much. Actually I have always objected to the post office charging money to insure delivery of something you paid them to deliver in the first place.
