Re: I DO NOT DISAGREE
In Response To: I DO NOT DISAGREE ()

I was not able to call up the link from your original post. Probably because, as I recall, the auction closed some time ago. When I first saw your post I think it had 18 min left. Anyways, as I recall it the chip does match the discriptions in your post.

COLOR: Green

INSERTS: none

MOLD: Hat & Cane

LOCATION: Las Vegas, Nevada

The only question I would have about that discription is "Location: Las Vegas, NV." Is that part of the discription of the chip and is she suggesting that it is a real casino in Las Vegas, or is she just saying that the chip is located in Las Vegas. If it is the former than you might have a point that there is an error in the listing.

While I think you raise a good point about people being truthful about their discriptions of their chips I didn't really see any misrepresentation in the listing. Unlike others that have, in the past, represented fantasy chips as being from real casinos I didn't pick up any representation of such from her auction. She may not have specifically put a disclaimer that the chips were fantasy chips but she didn't represent them as real either. Like one person said, maybe she put the info into a standard form that she uses for most of her auctions and didn't put enough specifics. As is the case with eBay where I have emailed a seller a few times for more information it might be proper to contact the seller here for more information. You could also notify her of the fact that she should specify that the chip is a Fantasy Chip and see if she responds positively to it.

Your post does prompt me to be attentive to auctions that I am looking at. Pay attention to details as sometimes the dealer may not know fully what they have. Chrystal's (SP?) auctions do have accurate discriptions and a clear photo. Someone who knows a little about what they are looking at may be able to identify and evaluate the chip from that discription. Then if you have any questions always write and ask. I can say from my experience that I have, more often, benefited from such inaccuracies than have been hurt. Maybe I am lucky but I think it is because I am attentive to certain details that are omitted. I have been able to avoid some misrepresentations and not bid. I also have found a few gems where I was able to capitalize on some ambiguity. I have encountered more than one auction where a key piece of information was not presented. From a decent photo or some other info I have been able to place bids on items that many other buyers have passed over because they didn't realize what was being sold. Point is it always pays to be attentive to details and inconsistanceies.

One example of what I mentioned above an 1897 magazine ad for Postum, a coffee like drink. I stumbled on this while lookiing for historical memorabilia from the, now closed, high school I went to. The endorsement was from the superintendant and son of the schools founder. The auction mentioned the schools name, bicycle corps, and the historical bicycle trip from Chicago to Washington, DC. I got into a bidding war with bicycle enthusiasts historians and militariana collectors and could not afford to keep up with the bids. I sadly lost the bid. I then did an eBay search for Postum and found the same ad mentioned in two other auctions. One mentioned the connection with bicycles and the bicycle trip but not the school. That auction got a price over my limit as well. The third auction mentioned Postum, and 1897 but no details of the content of the ad. I scrolled the ad and found the exact same ad. I got it for $5 with no other bidders. Obviously collectors may not be as interested in Postum as they were in the military or bicycle connections to the ad.

I have strayed away from your post but the point is that there is a line where an ad can be factual and incomplete compaired to an ad that is a misrepresentation. Chrystal's ad may not have been complete but I did not, personally, see any misrepresentation. Quite often, as mentioned above, the factual and incomplete ads result in great deals for us. We do not complain than. Your point of Chrystal's ad is one that shows how lack of all info can lead to buying something other than they expect. Your point is a good piece of advice to be aware but I would just be careful about insinuating some sort of fraud or deliberate misrepresentation.
