After reading Archie's call to the players, my problem may be relatively minor (and, incidentally, my University computer gurus say to shut down the pc at the end of the "use" day but don't keep doing it during the day (or night).

Here's the problem: When I scan at home using Adobe, I can save and send the scan but as soon as I do so my pc freezes and I have to end the scanner/adobe programs. The scan has been saved each time but it is annoying to have the Adobe/HP Scanner programs freeze. I cannot scan more than once without shutting off the programs and starting over from scratch. Any idea what is happening,anyone? Incidentally, I'm going to be buying a new pc for home in October; my gurus recommend against getting a Gateway and suggest a Dell. Any suggestions as to the best pc?
