Oh yeah, the "bright spot" between Reno and LV! Also the McDonalds between Tonapah and Fallon. Located in a desert next to a lake, Hawthorne serves a navel warfare research facility. Some sort of munition storage there too. Phoney cop cars at either end of town but I'd watch my speed through there anyway. Old town for Nevada, never had the time to stop and poke about, Hwy 95 not my favorite Nevada drive. If you ever see Hawthorne, you'd realize that perhaps they didn't have phone service to the outside world in those days.
