Re: my first LAS VEGAS chips...
In Response To: my first chip... ()

... were purchased from Charlie Rodgers at a Long Beach Coin Show that Brenda and I visited on our very first trip to Las Vegas.... well before CC & GTCC was organized in 1988. I would guestimate around 1985?

Charlie was selling both complete sets of CAROUSEL L.V. chips at his Long Beach table for something like $18 per set. His "pitch" at the time was "$262 face value Las Vegas chips for only $18!"

Well, I had a fairly decent Atlantic City collection (LE's were unheard of at that time) and there were only maybe 9 or so properties in A.C. from which I had all the then current regular table chips up to the $25 ... and the next logical step was to broaden my collecting interests.

I purchased two sets of the Carousel chips from Charlie at Long Beach .... and followed up with a mail-order when I got back home to New Jersey for another local collector who wanted a set. Both $1 chips; both $5 chips, both $25 chips; both $100 chips. I used to call them "plain" and "multi-colored" at the time as there were no books or catalogs around to refer to other than Bill Borland's "StarTime" lists that he used to send out periodically... before the Blue Book.
