Golden Acorn - trip report

Drove down to the new Golden Acorn Casino (250 miles round trip!) and picked up some $5 chips, a few $1 tokens, and a few slot cards. See next post for prices, if you're interested.

Opened Aug. 15; located 60 miles east of San Diego on I-8 in the middle of nowhere. 30 miles beyond the large, 10-yr old Viejas Casino. When their gas station/travel center opens, I see them attracting I-8 travellers, but not many San Diego locals, IMO. Too far to go, when Viejas and others are much closer. Casino floor had nice mix of prox. 300 machines, 8-10 table games. Also a coffee shop-type restaurant. Personnel still learning their jobs & pretty slow w/ customer lines at cashier cages, etc. Pretty typical of brand new place.

As shown in scan, chips are BJ with plastic inlays. No $1 chips. $1 tokens (and US quarters) in use. Token mintmark is "OC" (that's Osborne Coinage, I think.)

Stopped by Viejas on my way back. Same old chips in play. Did pick up a few slot cards. I like the way Viejas prints player's name on the REVERSE of the card, keeping the face blank on all cards.
