I have to agree with Rene to an extent, However, there is a difference between telling someone what to do with their money and trying to educate and inform them on the foolishness of their percieved investment. I still feel that slabbing is of no usefull value, is a waste of money and is harmfull to the future of the hobby. As you said Rene,"I am not gonna slab my inventory its too expensive." To keep silent on that and simply stand on the sidlines and not express those feelings would be a severe disservice to future chippers. I would advise collectors that they can get the same effect of a slab with a .75 AirTite. They can get the same benefit of grading by evaluating their view of the condition of a chip before buying it. If you are buying sight unseen through the internet and you are not sure of the dealer you are dealing with. I would advise not to purchase. Some would say that a slabbed and graded chip is a known quality when buying sight unseen. That is not necessarilly true. It has been mentioned that some dealers and collectors will take chips and submit them several times until they get the grade that they want. Two graders will not allways grade the same way. I would even be suspicious of services that offer different levels of service. PSA for example will grade a baseball card for $35 and express it back to you in two days. Or you can submit the same card for $8 and wait a week or so. How do we know that the $35 won't get you a better grade than the $8. You do not have to pay premium prices for a slabbed chip when you can buy an identical chip from most reputable dealers and collectors.
