ARROWHEAD - Joseph S. Bauer

As most of you know, I'm the person who first found the "JSB" chips (no, they're not Jill's personal chips... grin) and reported the find to Allan Myers, and Gene Trimble was the person who did the bulk of the research (see CHEQUERS Magazine) in digging up the history of the Arrowhead from about 1937, and its connection to the Cleveland Syndicate and the partner of Joseph S. Bauer.

What we don't know, is when did this club first open - or when and where were the chips first used, as we know through the United Sates Playing Car Co. in Cincinnati, that J.S. Bauer personally ordered the chips in 1926, a good 10-years prior to any information recovered by the Gene, myself and what's found in the book "The Silent Syndicate" (Kefauver Hearings information).

At first I thought (along with other information) the chips may have been Bauer's personal poker chip set used in private games (home-club), but the quantity of chips that followed my initial find tells us these are more than just chips used in a poker game.

Joseph S. Bauer's life prior to 1937 (his death) is very sketchy, as most of what we know involving him with the club is very little.

If anyone living in the Cincinnati area cares to do some local research of the Joseph S. Bauer name being tied to any organized (or private) games, clubs, business or anything between the years 1926 (when the chips were first ordered), or earlier; and other than what's currently known in Gene's article, Gene and I would sure appreciate it. Anything; an address, phone numbers, names of perons in raids; police and newspaper reports or even club advertising.

Thanks,

JB
