I have only seen one $100 Riata black and the inserts are split (separated.) We show that by listing the inserts as 3-YELLOW, 3-GREEN. If they were contacting, we would list them as 6 [3-YELLOW 3-GREEN]. The only variety that I have and have seen is the one pictured in the C-W book on P. 131.
