The scarce ones have gone way up... there were no $150 ashtrays when the book was written. However, the low end has stayed the same, or even gone down. There is essentially no market for the common ashtrays... they are back to the 25c to 50c prices that many of us picked them up at years ago [g]. Not enough new ashtray collectors to provide a demand for these and the experienced collectors already have them. Also, you can't sell a heavy glass ashtray on eBay when the shipping is several times what the item is worth.
