From a practical point of view, it is seldom that the ONLY thing that differentiates two chips is the color, so this problem of exact color names doesn't come up that often. Most times, there is a difference in the mold, inlay or hotstamp configuration that will allow us to tell one from the other. Usually minor color variations come up in case of reorders of the same basic chip, in which case there won't be much difference in value, even though a few of us really want to collect both colors.
I have to say that I very seldom have a problem using the 'free-form' color descriptions in TCR to i.d. my chips.
