An Engineer Joke - NCR

Without rhyme or reason the loaded carpool car suddenly sputtered to a full and complete stop, blocking the so called fast lane of the freeway during the height of the rush hour. Almost immediately the on-board Mechanical Engineer said, "I know what the problem is! I remember hearing a strange and peculiar sound from the back axle when we pulled away from George's house earlier, but I wasn't quite sure what is was. Well, now I know. We are stuck here in traffic because of a broken axle. The only way get to work in a reasonable amount of time is to call for a tow truck."

Well just about then the Electrical Engineer piped up and said, "Paul, don't be a fool. A sudden and inexplicable stoppage like this can only mean a minor, but significant electrical problem. In fact, I think I can smell the familiar odor of melted insulation! I will stake my reputation on the likelihood of a minor short that can be repaired as soon as I can get under the hood. And we can get to work just a little tardy."

Amidst the blaring of horns, screaming voices and obscene gestures from blocked and passing motorists (and a few impassioned CC>CC members), the Software Engineer then spoke up. "Paul, I heard nothing that sounded like a mechanical failure, and Henry, the only smell I can detect is exhaust! I know what the problem is, and I can get us to work on time."

Everyone was amazed and insisted that George, the Software Engineer explain. "This car, like all other cars of recent manufacture, depends on proper coding for the on-board computer systems and components. I am willing to bet it is just a simple software problem." As George began to open his door, he went on, "Come on now, lets all get out and then get back in. I'm sure the car will start up then."
