Re: Fraud auction - John and Joe
In Response To: Re: Fraud auction - John ()

I think you're missing the point, Joe. If I cheated you, would you continue to do business with me because you usually get a good deal? If I cheat your friends, will you continue to do business with me as long as I haven't cheated you yet? Dean has done several things that some of us think are disreputable, dishonest, and bad for the hobby. We've tried talking to him. Apparently our only recourse is to not do business with him.

1) He describes lots as rare and/or obsolete even though he knows they are not rare or obsolete.

2) He sometimes sends a chip inferior to the chip pictured in the auction, and then refuses to make good on the deal.

3) He bought a chip from Rene at the convention for $25 and rushed home to list it in a 3-day auction for a high opening bid, making reference to it's high chip rack value, implying that the same value was still justified, not disclosing that 6 boxes had just been found and the value had just crashed. Someone got burned real bad on that deal, and Dean was completely unremourseful.

4) If and when you ever do have a problem with Dean, the overwhelming evidence presented by numerous people on this board is that you will get no response and no satisfaction.

5) He sometimes signs his emails Dan Clark, confusing himself with another chipper by that name, and will take no steps to releive the confusion.

Many others on this board can list other specific instances of being burned by Dean. Knowledge is power. This board provides us with an unprecedented opportunity to share our knowledge. Many people on this board have told personal horror stories about their dealings with Dean. You may of course do with this information as you see fit. We have no power to change Dean's behavior except the power of the marketplace. If you buy his chips you support his marketing style. Suit yourself.
