Re: JB what is ballpark on this many chips?

Hi Jim,

Though I do not know the seller, personally (not
having met him), he has called me (and several
others) asking information as to the value of the
set.

From what I've been told from some of our authors,
I've sold these codes before and I was asking low
book; $40 to $50 per unit. The chips were
full-blown with 100% complete rims and scrimshaw.

In the workbook Dale has published for those
interested in ivory gambling chips, he notes the
following:

"Twenty ivory chip collectors were consulted in
assigning value to the chips presented here
[depicted in book]. It is important to note that if
a single chip is valued at $50, one-hundred such
chips will not be worth one-hundred times $50.
Sellers and buyers of sets may decide on a per chip
price 20-60% lower than a single chip price."

So, to further answer your question, Jim. I advised
the seller (as did others) that he keep the set
intact and not break it up.

The seller has recently contacted all who he spoke
with previously, thanking us for our help, and
telling us that he's purchased a copy of "Antique Gambling Chips" - Revised Edition.

We wish him well.
