I cannot answer your questions, but that type of mold seems familiar to a chip that I have. (I will have to search for it, so don't hold your breath.) I was also going to take you to task for calling that part of a hat a "rim," as I have always known it to be a "brim". When I looked it up in my Webster's, I found this peace offering:

2: the projecting rim of a hat.

Rim, brim; same? Different? This is just like the placement of each one of those H/C ikons, where are they? On the edge, or on the side?
