Re: Anti slabbing dead ???
In Response To: Anti slabbing dead ??? ()

Actually it's kind of like a debate and fact finding. We have hashed, re-hashed and the general concensous is that we don't want it. About 98% of the chippers are against and the other 2% don't care either way. ;-) (but those involved in bleeding us for money are in favor)

We've had people come in and sling mud, lies, accusations and promises of all the good that slabbing will do for chipping like it did for other hobbies. Meanwhile the facts show that only the elite, the speculators and the vultures end up gaining from this, also the hobby affected loses and it does nothing to promote or improve for the general collector.

Almost every argument in favor of slabbing, has been shown to be false or specious. Usually something to do with grading, authentication or values. Grading is a minor issue for most chip collectors. Authentication has been an open issue of debate and providing information to back up a claim. Values are pretty simple and have mostly been controled by demand, not some non-collecting athority.

Last of all, I can't imagine how some new outsider will suddenly become an instant expert at all of these, and recognized as the final word on Grade, Value and authenticity? It just doesn't make sense. Or is some othside force trying to manipulate and control the hobby? One of the best points in favor of our group of Casino Collectors, is the were run our own group and don't have some ivory tower orginization standing above, making the rules. (as in the dealers don't run the hobby, the collectors do!)

So the issue isn't dead, it's just taking a rest? I don't see anything beyond a small special interest group and a small minority who would embrace or desire slabbed chips.

I suggest that we stay united and vote with our pocketbook. When slabbed chips become available, don't bother with them, don't bid on them. If the price is right, buy them and free them.

My personal view on boycotting dealers, is that's a personal choice. I'd suggest a more positive approach, other than boycott. Buy everything one possibly can and support dealers who don't sell or promote slabbing. Only buy from the others/slabbers as a last resort. Much kinder approach. ;-)

(now can someone tell me where these chips are from?)
