"CHIP SLABBING"
I am more than a little disappointed in Coin World's March 5th article on casino chip slabbing written by Summer Douglas. (Coin World Staff writer)
After reading the story, I was left with an overwhelming feeling that your publication is in favor of bringing "slabbing" to casino chip collecting.

Has everyone in the coin collecting hobby ... oh, I'm sorry, industry ... forgotten what slabbing has done to your pastime?

I respectfully submit to you that any cognizant person (with basic understanding) can determine the condition and value of a chip. That's what makes our hobby the joy it is.

Can anyone out there really tell the $1,800 difference between an 1885-s Morgan in Mint State 64 and MS-65?

Because if that is true, me mortals would never stand a chance in the coin industry.

Editor's note: Coin World has not taken a position on the decision by Independent Coin Grading Co. to begin grading casino chips. The news article referenced reported both sides of the controversy and did not take a position favoring either.
