Casino of the Sun - Obsolete chips? Not!

Just when you have it figured out, they change the conditions! Casino of the Sun (COTS), Tucson, AZ (Pasqua Yaqui Tribe) closed it poker room many, many, MANY moons ago, and started selling off their rack of chips at face-value with an advisement that they could not be redeemed. The fractionals were gone in a heartbeat (.25 & .50). 1's, 5's, 25's, 100's and 6 tournament chips remained (set of six tourney chips were priced at $5).

Then came news that COTS would re-open their poker room, under the management of a newly acquired Team from Cliff Castle Casino (Northern Arizona, also an Indian Tribe).

Well, the poker room had a soft opening in the last several days, so I ran over to get my hands on their new rack. Sorry, no new rack yet! The old one has been put back into-play except for the fractionals (they are all gone) and the tourney chips (too many are out and about). They already have a new Tournament set, but it was unavailable for viewing. I did confirm that it is 5 pieces and branded COTS.

Therefore, COTS cash-value chips are no longer obsolete, HOWEVER, this will change when a new poker room opens at a new facility still being built about a mile further West. That room is scheduled to open in October and will have new chips. Therefore, existing COTS will once again become obsolete.

The Tribe hopes to offer Vegas-type table games (Let it Ride and blackjack), but needs permission first. They are reluctant to order a new rack until this is resolved. If 21 is added, then a $2.50 (snapper) will be considered. A .50 cent fractional is more likely than a $3.00 Drop Chip for the poker tables, however this is not cast in concrete. The new management (former Cliff Castle) favors LE's (could be a GO for the poker room) and has past dealings with CHIPCO (a five piece, stackable set).

All for now. If you have any 100's and want them redeemed, just pledge them as Bounty chips on the guy's head, below.)
