Email Monotone
In Response To: Our Internet "Pet Peeves" ()

My biggest dislike of the internet is that email is monotone. You only see text. You cannot hear how the message is being said, you cannot see the expression on the other speaker's face. Much of the "message" is lost when you are not face to face or at least listening to a voice.

A slight mis-wording of a phrase can insult someone, unintentionally. If you are face to face, you have the opportunity to explain yourself, before the damage is done. With email or a BB, feelings have been alrady hurt before you get a chance to explain.

I am wondering how technology will improve text messaging so that it can some day convey the same amount of information as a visual or audio message.
