Why do people use an alias when bidding on E-bay?

It seems to me a person would be better served if he would use his real name or his recognizable e-mail address when bidding on E-bay items, especially for inexpensive chips.

Although I don't do very many transactions on E-bay, I will, at times, depending upon the number of duplicates I have and of course if I recognize the person's name, will inform him privately not to bid on a chip as I can give it to him at face value or possibly a little over. I certainly would not do this for a stranger.

Just my thoughts.
