Re: An Era Ended in 1988.
In Response To: Re:GENE... ()

John Kendall (Chipco) bought out The Burt Co in 1988. Burt made 90% of the clay compression chips in the world.*

Jim Blanchard was the production manager for Burt at the time.

Jim started Atlantic Standard after the buy-out. AS went with the clay/plastic composite injected molded chips. AS is not licensed in NV.

Sorry if this is more than you asked for.

Chipco decided to go with the porcelin chips and sold all the old Burt molds to Atlantic Standard.

AS has recasted some of the old clay copression molds to injected molds (HHR & DiSwirl for 2). Jim told me, the cost to convert the old compression molds to injected molds is cost prohibitive. This was in responce to a request to make a LE series to commemorate the old "and IMO grand" molds. He did say he would consider making a "Die Cut Metal" LE chip for me.

The old clay compression chips era all but ended with the Burt buy-out.

TR King is still capable of making clay compression chips. TR King is not licensed in NV.

*Paul-Son still produces compression chips at their plant in Mexico. IMO, they are not the same as the old Burt chips. They have more plastic and other fillers than clay. If you dump a new box of PS chips on a BJ table, the table will be covered with something akin to brick dust.

The Tbird chip is a true clay compression molded chip produced by Burt and distributed by Langworthy which was based in LV.
