Re: Phil Jensen?
In Response To: Re: Phil Jensen? ()

I don't know Phil personally, though have met him once. Phil Jensen started collecting chips in the 60's or early 70's I think. Travelled to the small casinos in small towns too, in addition to Reno & So. Nevada chips. Chatted with old-timers and casino owners. Took some photos of long-ago closed casinos too. He's written about some of his travels in a series of articles in the chip club magazine. In fact, his writings won "best article" in the magazine one year. His collection is/was reported to be substantial, though I have never seen it personally. I think he's concentrating on Silver Strikes now. Part of his collection has stolen, then recovered many years later through Steve P. (story also written about in the club magazine).

While the phrase "From the Phil Jensen collection" may provide an interesting attribution to a chip being sold (particularly an older chip), Phil is still picking up chips and selling them through others, from what I gather. There's a new LVC chip (issued within the last 2 weeks) that's being sold "from the PJ collection", so that particular chip evidently went in and out of his collection in less than 2 weeks.

His stories that I've read are informative and entertaining. Gives a first-hand account of Nevada chip collecting history that's not available elsewhere.
