chip people (or reasons to be in this hobby).
1. As collectors
2. As dealers
3. As investors
I collect for many reasons, but I try to keep "investment" out of the equation. It seems that I struggle with this same concept whenever I am dealing with my Homeowners Association. They are quick to point out that rules (CC&Rs) are meant to protect property values. To them, their house is an investment. They are only a transient in the community. To me, its a home. While I am there, I will use it. I will not put plastic runners on the carpet (carpet is made to be walked on). I will not cover the sofas, they are meant for my butt. I sometimes wonder how those pin-heads manage to use their toilets? I want to touch my home and I want to touch my chips!
I do not live in my "investment" house. Instead, I rent it out. I want it to stay in good condition because I am a transient owner and at some point I will want to get some (or all) of my investment dollars back.
I don't feel that way about my chips. I want to have them now and until the day I die. After that, although I have certain desires for their disposition, the reality is, I will not be in charge of them.
I've rambled a bit, however, the point that I think I am making (or want to make) is that in our slabbing discussions use of the term "investment" (IMHO) is an arguement point for slabbing.
