Re: Why AGAINST? We don't care about grade!

Welcome to chip collecting. Aside from the usual debates, we do have a great time and loads of fun.

To answer your question, and I haven't the time to read all the other replies, but I'm sure at least one other has noted this.

Casino chip collecting has a history of NOT grading the chips. We collect for the item, not the quality. (unless the chip is notched, drilled, warped, heavily worn etc.) So the difference in value between one that has a perfect hot stamp and one that has one letter fadded a bit, and another that the hot stamp has turned from gold to silver, is usually nothing.

Most of the time, it's just a matter of finding a chip that is missing from the collection, not how perfect the example is.

I hope that explains best, why it isn't needed and why most people don't want to start it.

You may have experience from cards, coins, stamps and others where a slight bend in a Beanie Baby tag, lowers the value. With chips, many of us don't even clean them before sale, because that is part of the chip. Go figure, an uncleaned chip might even attract more buyers, that one which has been doctored to "gussied" up. Most people collect for the pure enjoyment of the history, beauty or feel of the chips. Not many collect to invest or for value...
