Re: Harrahs/ Reno/Tahoe/ chip questions??

Hi Jill. As Bernie said, Harrah's Tahoe uses all Bud Jones chips. They replaced the brass house chips in 1996. They continued to use the brass baccarats in the high roller area until last year. They now have the oversize Bud Jones there. I have what I believe to be reliable information that the brass baccarats have all been destroyed.

Reno Harrah's also replaced their brass chips with Bud Jones in 1996. However, The $1 chip (see below) looked too much like the $25 from the edge as seen by the eye in the sky, and the orange $2.50 looked too much like the $5. Both were pulled very soon after they were put in play (the stories range from same day to 3 weeks), and the brass $1s and $2.50s put back on the tables. The brass $2.50s were replaced for good in 1998 with a lavender Bud Jones. Contrary to what lots of people like to imply or outright claim in their auctions, the $1 brass chips are still in use on the craps tables at Harrah's Reno.

Part of what prompted them to replace the brass was a very successful counterfeiting of the white $100. Very soon after they put the first Bud Jones $100 on the tables in Reno (center chip in the bottom row), counterfeits of it started showing up. So they replaced it with the chip on the bottom right in 1997, which was ALSO soon counterfeited. (Chip Rack has the dates backwards on these chips.) It was pulled and a third Bud Jones $100 was put in play in 1999. I'm sorry I don't have one of the current $100 to show. I do have all of these chips for sale, if anyone is interested.
