I read and LOVED the LORD OF THE RINGS series when I was younger, and I'm sure it will make a spectacular series of live action movies (I believe they're planning three of them).

HOWEVER, at 46 years of age now, I have recently read the entire HARRY POTTER series (since my kids flipped over them) and, frankly, enjoyed every single page. I would not characterize the audience range differently for the two series, and, although I stated that the two films were going to compete for the YOUTH market, I did not mean that that segment would be the only one interested in them.

The fact is, though, that this X-mas season there will not be too much kiddy fare. After THE SANTA CLAUSE 2 opens in early November, it's just Harry and Frodo for the holidays. Of course, if you like the Sci-Fi/Fantasy aspect of LORD, you might want to see the remake of THE TIME MACHINE (scheduled for the same week).
