The average price on eBay is more like $15.00 for a good clean set that's not too faded.

The chips were never sold to the public, they were produced as "premiums" to give to high volume distributors (housewives), under the theory that if the Little Woman gave the Hubby a gift made of Tupperware, he would be happier about the little lady's extracurricular activity.

Problem was that the Tupper execs didn't realize that no self respecting man would execute a pot sized check raise by splashing the pot with $43.50 worth of Tupperware chips. How unmanly!

So, I'm told they were only given out to distributors from about 1956 - 1960, and many of the sets are really NOS, since few wives ever picked that particular premium.

By the way, my wife told me that she doesn't like the term "house wife", since it implies there's another one somewhere else.

I replied by telling her about the Walrus that crashed the Tupperware party, looking for a tight seal.
