Jim,
I applaud your stance on this issue, as well as every other chipper that enjoys this hobby for all the reasons most of us got involved with it to start with! I don't need or want someone to tell me what "grade" a chip is and I'm damn sure not going to pay for it. If a chip is in an acceptable condition to ME and the price is fair, I'll buy the chip. (Doubt slabbing would leave much room for trading!<G>) If not, I won't buy it. I will state here and now, I WILL NOT BUY ANY SLABBED CHIPS! I WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM ANYONE WHO SELLS SLABBED CHIPS!
As for the issue of restricting the sell of slabbed chips at the convention and/or the auction, the Club has every right to prohibit the sell of any item the board sees fit to prohibit. As long as the restricted items are clearly spelled out in the dealer table contract. The prospective dealer can either choose not to sell slabs or not take a table, simple as that. I don't think the Club should be endorsing "slabbing" and by allowing the sell of slabs on the bourse floor it could be perceived as a loose endorsement and making money off of the slabbed chips in an indirect way. If they were allowed in the auction, the Club would benefit in a more direct way and the Club would be attaching a very definite endorsement of the practice.
I would like to hear how the other candidates for Club office feel about this issue before I cast by vote. No dimpled Slabs!!!!
