Paradise Casino, Yuma, AZ to expand.

I have some interesting information regarding expansion plans for the Paradise Casino (Ft. Yuma), Yuma, AZ. I have been told, but have not seen officially, that the Quechan Tribe has plans to build, on the California side, a new casino that offers all the newly approved California Indian Gaming games. Evidently, the Quechan Tribe (and Reservation) is in both States (California and Arizona). What is particularly interesting about this, is that the existing property (on the Arizona side) will be joined to the new property (on the California side), by a walkway or tunnel.

For you geography buffs, it is interesting to note that the Colorado River normally separates California and Arizona, and under that condition a connecting walkway/tunnel would have to be over or under the Colorado River. However, some years back, it was established that the California/Arizona border needed to become a fixed line of demarkation, and no longer change as the path of the Colorado River changed. Not too long after that, the path of the Colorado River did in fact change (in the Yuma area), whereby it moved Eastward. It is on that piece of land, which is now on the West side of the River, yet is in Arizona, that the Paradise Casino, Yuma, AZ was built. Therefore, the new construction (in California) can take place right at the border and the two gaming properties can be connected by a simple walkway.

I have no information on when this will happen, if it will require separate racks, or what.

Regards, Jim Follis
