Re: Curacao Hilton $1 Chip - Still no Info?

Here's what Ralph Pollack says about it in his "Dutch Caribbean" chip book, Pete.

This is catalog HIL-1C&J.5, the first issue from the Curacao Hilton hotel on the island of Curacao. Value code is **** or $70-100. (I didn't pay anywhere near that for my example, though). This was possibly a denominated roulette, as there are identical chips known with blue, slate, red, and yellow inserts. The 8-pointed star on the inlay supposedly is the same shape as the swimming pool at the hotel <g>. Denominations of $5, $25, And $100 are also known in this design. The 25 and 100 are valued at only ** (20-40), LESS than the dollar!

This place was open from 1967 to 1971 under the Curacao Hilton name. It currently is the Curacao Caribbean Resort.

I have only the $1 chip with black inserts (as you show) and would like to find the other colors if anyone has them to sell or trade.

Older Caribbean chips are just not well known and there are only a handful if collectors I know who collect them. Many are rare. Many are available in box quantities, particularly some of those from Puerto Rico that have closed or changed chips in the last few years. I have fun collecting the dollars and 2.50's from each of the islands. One of these days when some of the experienced chippers get all the Nevada chips <g>, we may see the Caribbean values take off.
Albert Rollins' P.R. book is due out next year. He is the most knowledgable collector I know on his island and has an extensive collection.
