Gambling Banned at Outpost San Ramon, Calif.

The state Department of Justice dealt the Outpost card room out of the gambling business on Tuesday, denying a gaming permit to an establishment older than the city of San Ramon itself. The current owner of the Outpost, Mark Luciano, was among 55 people charged after a massive police sting to stop the alleged influence of Asian organized crime at Garden City and Bay 101 in San Jose and at the Outpost. Charges against Luciano were later dropped. Charges stemming from the investigation of other suspects in the case included loan sharking, racketeering, assault and witness intimidation, among other crimes. The poker room is now closed.
