The election and me ---

With the Call for Nominations placed in the latest edition of the club's magazine, I just wanted to remind my follow collector's what I stand for;

Neal Silverman - Where I Stand

Many of the issues that confront our Club at the present time have
not been fully investigated. I think the more positive approach is to look into these matters and be able to make a well reasoned judgement, rather than to
pick a side because I am in an election.

In business I pride myself in the flexibility and decision making that I bring to projects. Even though I may be strongly in favor of a project, when presented with reasonable information to the contrary I am able to adjust and adapt. I hope to bring that same ability, being able to investigate and learn, right down to the decision point on major issues, to our Club’s business. After all, the idea is to make the best choice for the Club, not necessarily the first choice. When discussing any issue and I support one side, that is not blind support. I will not vote to purchase anything for the Club if it is not a prudent purchase at that time.

A club facility is an excellent example. I am very much in favor of our Club having a home. A building capable of housing a museum, and perhaps host other events and functions. However, I would not consider that scale of an acquisition if it was premature in the Club’s life span. The timing would have to be right, the funds required would have to affordable, and the property would
have to be the right property.

Rules, By-Laws, and the Club’s Consitution are all in place. But they are useless unless sound judgement is applied when they are invoked. With that in mind here is where I stand:

I am in favor of strengthening our Club’s financial footing so that the funds will be available to help grow the hobby and the Club when reasonable opportunities arise.

I am in favor of enhancing the functions and events we have to make, or keep them, the best and most prestigious in the hobby. Simply put, I would not cut back on our magazine, the CC&TN, I would look to build upon it. I would not consider reducing the scope of our annual convention, but rather press to keep it the premier event that it is.

I am very much in favor of a club building to house a CC>CC museum, provided reasonable conditions to go forward are met.

I would strongly encourage the creation of specialty collector Chapters similar to the Silver Strike Chapter and the future Roulette Harvester's chapter.

Though it comes up periodically I have not seen, nor do I see on the horizon any compelling argument to change our Club’s name.

I am not in favor of a grading system. However, I think the use of relative descriptions such as: uncirculated, used, worn are useful.

With the Internet’s growth, the web has become a primary form of communication and the Club should embrace it and take as full advantage of the Internet as is practical. I want to put in place new procedures and techniques to provide better communication between our Board and our Members.

Bi-weekly Officer Hosted Chat Room - I would like to develop bi-weekly chat sessions on the Club’s website. These chat sessions would be hosted by a different member of the Board, on an alternating basis.

I would like to look into the feasibility of creating a new position to help keep the information flowing. It is not practical to read every post, every day, on every message board…and still have time to do the job of President, Vice-President, etc.

Similarly, a Board Member can’t respond to questions and issues until made aware of the situation. I do not want to police the message boards, I want to be responsive and accessible.

As different topics and issues develop during this election campaign I will do my utmost to keep you updated, to let you know where I stand. Thank you, Neal Silverman R-1379
