40 Year Old Souvenir of Las Vegas

“YES-SIREE! THE DICE ARE HOT, THE MUSIC IS HOT, AND THE RECORD IS HOT!”

(or at least that’s what it says on the back of the sleeve…)

I ran across this Las Vegas Souvenir Record at a record convention over the weekend. It is from 1960 and the copy I bought was apparently given out as a Souvenir at the Mint Casino.

Side 1 is a history of Las Vegas narrated by Gus Giuffre, listed on the record sleeve as a “popular Las Vegas Radio and TV personality”. He talks about the history of Las Vegas and then names off the Casinos on the strip and downtown at that time back in 1960.

((Gene, is Gus still around? ))

Side 2 is a song by “Panama Bob Downie and the Magnetics” with lots of sounds effects of a craps game and slot machine payoffs. The song sounds very dated and the lyrics are ‘corny’ by today’s standards.

The rest of the details should be legible in the scan below of the front and back of the jacket.

Each side runs a little over 6 minutes. I have ripped both sides into the .mp3 format and posted them on my server. Each side is about 5.75MB so it will take anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes (per side) to download it to your computer, depending on your computer speed and your type of connection.

If you would like to download either side, just can click on the following links and you will then receive a download prompt. I suggest you choose “Save This File To Disk”. If you save this file to disk, you can run or replay it later (or burn it to a CD) without downloading it again.

Hope you enjoy this 40-year-old look back in time.

Happy Harvesting,
