Is the end of Downtown Reno in sight????

According to some, It looks as if Downtown Reno, as a gambling center, is on the way to oblivion.

Most of the business coming to Reno is from Sacramento (a two hour drive) and the Bay area (four hours or so) and impossible to reach during the winter months. Downtown Reno is and has been for a long time, a very dirty city.

The main reason anyone would want to visit Reno is for the purpose of gambling in some of their beautiful casinos (and some not so beautiful.)

Well, within a short time, that reason will no longer be valid.

With the advent of the recently past California legislation regarding Indian Casinos, some of the big Las Vegas money is backing the construction of some hugh, beautiful casinos in the Sacramento area to compete with Reno.

All are expecting full scale Nevada games to be allowed in the Indian casinos very shortly and when this happens, say goodby to Reno. Who in their right mind would take that trek to Reno when they can have the same exact thing in their back yard. Harrah's is funding a multimillion dollar Indian Casino in Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento (and adjacent to Citrus Heights where I now reside) and is expected to match the accommodations of anything Reno might have to offer.
