Texas Gambling Ship: A Texas Sized Embarrassment

TRIP REPORT: I sailed yesterday on the Texas Treasure from Corpus Christi (actally it was from Port Aransas, Texas). Let me begin with the good things. I saw many great dolphins playing in the intercoastal waterway. I lost very little money at the gaming tables. The trip was mercifully short. I won't be critical of the so-called access road to the ship--a rut-filled dirt road, or of the unpaved parking lot or of the trailer house they set up for a ticket booth or of having to stand an hour in the sun in line to get to the little trailer house to get a ticket. They are having a "soft opening" and these things just were not ready yet. What I did expect was nicely refurbished ship with great food, great gambling, and most of all NICE BRAND NEW TEXAS TREASURE CHIPS. I also had hoped for some nice perks to entice the first passengers to return. What I found was an old dirty ship with bathrooms stopped up and overflowing onto the floor (the women said there was no paper in their bathrooms). The "buffet" offered tiny portions of meat loaf, poor quality spaghetti, over-cooked chicken and rice, wilted salad, dried out cakes for dessert and no table service. Oh yes, there was a sign on the table recommending a $3. tip for the dining room waiter! Any casino worth its salt would have been embarrassed by the gambling. The only personnel who seemed to know anything were the people at the dice table. Every dealer at the table games seemed totally helpless. On 'Let It Ride' I was paid for a pair of "9's"--a pair of "10's" is minimum. They tried to pay me for a 4 card flush but the pit boss stopped that one. Only one dealer appeared able to rapidly count to "21". I heard several passengers tell dealers they had made an error and without double checking--the dealers started to pay out and sometimes the passenger was in error. I had no problem getting chips. You could get them at the tables or the cage personnel would sell you anything you wanted. I was not sure I wanted any chips! See the scan. No Texas Treasure Chips. All chips and tokens were labeled "ISLAND HOLIDAY". I assume this was another cruise line--I do not know. Two casino personnel told me "Texas Treasure" chips were coming. Two more told me "No". I will not be going back unless I hear they do have new chips. I do not know if they will be in business long enough to get more chips. For the few of you that I have contacted, if you do NOT want these chips--it is perfectly understandable. Sorry for such a long report. Doug
