eBay & insurance

Good Evening:

I got into a discussion w/ a coworker today about eBay & chips. He brought up an interesting point, and I was astonished that I had never thought of it. He said that when an individual visits a casino a "pockets" a chip this is technically a crime. Theft. He also wondered if the eBay corporation is technically committing a crime when these chips are sold via an eBay on line auction. Complicity? Is that the correct word?

I can understand how the individual would have an out BEFORE selling a chip on eBay: the chip, I suppose, is technically an I.O.U., and the individual can "redeem" it at his/her leisure. But, the I.O.U., in the form of a chip, BELONGS to the casino, and the individual does not have the right to sell it.

Is this making any sense?
