Questions from an E-Mail

I received an e-mail today that asked questions regarding what convention volunteers are required to do. The person asking suggested that I post my response here.

Volunteers are needed from now until 6 pm on the last day of the show. The ones for now are primarily Committee chairpersons who each have definite responsibilities. As of today, unless something has happened that I don't know about we need:

Convention Publicity Chairman

This duty includes getting Convention information out to local media, casinos, stores, that kind of thing. I'm sure that if asked Wayne will provide more information. If you're interested, please contact him.

The other volunteer positions are mainly immediately before, during or after the show. Wayne and I begin on Monday morning and go until 6 pm Saturday night and would welocome a few hours of help.

We have a person who has accepted the challenge of Setup/Teardown Chair and he will be soliciting help. The job isn't physically or mentally challenging. We hire out the table setup so the volunteers put cloths, sign posts and signs on the tables. They also work with the Property Chair to get display cases to the dealers who paid for them. The reverse is true of the teardown. Tablecoths are piled in corners, sign posts are taken down and bound together, display cases are put back in their boxes and loaded into the Property Chairman's truck. The setup generally takes 4-5 hours. Tear down is done in 2. This year we all did a little of everything. It's a matter of recognizing what needs to be done and doing it.

This year we might also need help getting pre-registration packets finished. I won't have details as to everything that might entail but an hour or so of a few people helping means that Wayne and I don't have do it all ourselves.

Pre-convention we might also need someone who has a vehicle and doesn't mind running a few errands. Wayne and I spent an entire day picking stuff up before the show. Having someone to pick up or take last minute projects would be of enormous help.

We need help manning the registration table during the Wednesday night event. That duty might change this year based on what decision we make about the dinner arrangements. Again, it's not difficult work, just hectic.

During the show we might need a volunteer to fill in while one of the Registration people takes a break or we might need someone to do an odd job.

That's basically it. A person who can volunteer for only an hour or so on Monday thru Wednesday is as highly sought after as the person who is willing to work during the entire pre-convention setup.

I hope this answered some questions. If you'd like more information, please let me know and I'll respond as quickly as I can.

Thanks

Belinda
