Re: The Chip Police are Watching

I do not collect limited edition chips, although I do have a few in my collection because there was something about them that I liked. Most LE's can be redeemed at the casino for face value and in many cases these chips are put out in their racks for use at the tables. I see nothing wrong with the casinos putting out LE's. They are attractive, many have interesting themes to them and they bring in a lot of new collectors into the hobby. That's great. But it doesn't mean that I have to like them or collect them. Even if the intent of most LE's is to not have them ever used at the table, they still could be used at the tables and the casino is obligated to redeem them at face value. But when chips are created with values on them that are meaningless because they cannot be used any place at that value, I take exception to them. They are no different than "fantasy" chips. And I would value them no differently than I would any other "fantasy" chips.

Now this is just my opinion, others are entitled to feel differently about these chips than I do and I have no problem with that. My main thought when I made that comment was geared to some of the Colorado casinos that have produced LE sets in plexiglass holders that were sold above face value. This issue has been discussed in detail previously on this board and eventually complaints were made to casino regulatory agencies in Colorado.
