Re: CREST & SEAL RECORDS
In Response To: On a more parochial level. ... ()

There are no records that I know of that would help
identify presently unknown Crest and Seal chips. As
far as I know, whatever presently unknown Crest and
Seal chips there are out there are still presently
unknown. If you make this trip to USPC, you'll find
this to be true. In other words: Everything you
read in our books is just as it is at USPC. We
should not assume that all records ID chips. Chips
are ID'd in several other ways; such as the
FLORIDIAN CASINO Crest and Seal chips. We knew of
these chips being in the museum of USPC for many,
many years. It was never ID'd. Then one day I
located some chips; did some research, and learned
there was a Floridian Casino in Miami. We never knew this before. Another
recent example of chips that we knew were in the
USPC museum was the J.S.B. (Joseph S. Bauer; owener,
Arrowhead in Branch Hill, OH).
MY POINT: You will see hundreds of actual chips at
the USPC Museum attached to actual ordering and
shipping dates; quantities of such, order numbers,
Names of purchaers and so on. What does this tell
us? Well, in the case of the Floridian Casino
chips: we're told (via records) that the chips
were shipped to a B.C. Wills & Co. in Detroit, MI.
on Dec. 9, 1929; order #L-463, at the tune of
5000-pieces (with no denomination breakdown). Does
this record tell you anything? NO. Now, in the case
of the J.S.B. chip: We're told (via records) on
11/1/26, a J.S. Bauer, Cincinnati, OH, ordered some
chips that were delivered on the 19th of November
that same year; oeder #H-362. Did this tell the
chip collecting community anything? NO. Did I tell
the chip community something? YES. Did Gene break
his chops telling us more? YES. Do some people have
copies of these records? YES. Why? Because they
break their chops doing research to help YOU.
Please do not be annoyed with them...they have a job
to do. The man who broke his chops taking photos of
these chips has a job to do. The authors and
researches who fill up our books have a job to do.
No artist will debut an unfinished work of art.
Their work will be served to YOU. YOU will miss
nothing...and, all they ask is that YOU buy their
finished masterpiece. So, in short, records aren't
always what they are cracked up to be. Thus the
point Archie and I are making: Somebody needs to
examine future records that may become available,
first, should the club become interested in them.
