A Poker Tournament Thank You.

Now that I am home, I would like to say...

Perhaps more than any other person at the Poker Tournament, it was I that was surprised most. And truth-be-known, my win was a combination of many factors, many of which were not under my control. Luck, whether GOOD for me, or BAD for my others, was a participant in the outcome. I would however, like to point out the evenings-lone constant, which was the people behind the action. I, just as many others, recognize the valuable contributions and efforts of others that permitted an age-old tradition of honest competition amid a frenzied atmosphere of money, people, gaming, and alcohol (and yes, sex, but I trust it happened later, cause I didn’t see it at the tables).

I applaud everyone who was involved. From the organizers (the Club, Gene Trimble (and his associate Bobby Thompson), and Robert Pardue), to CHIPCO, to the Prize Patrol People (Chequers, Neal and Marty (for the chip set), Travis "da Pidgeon" Lewin (for the trophy) and Chris Colangelo (Tiny Treasures, for the 5-chip frame), and Kevin Norris (for the "participants" card and design of the Tournament chips), to the assembled crowd of on-lookers (and cheerleaders, Pam, my wife, among them). But most notably, to all the other participants (the players). Although it takes all kinds, and I’m sure that our ranks typify most kinds, by and large everyone was pleasant, cordial and focused on a specific purpose, which was to have fun.

Although there was a more serious nature at the final table, it remained that good sportsmanship prevailed, and I only received congratulations, handshakes (that matched my own nervous trembling), pats-on-the-back, and smiles from everyone. I was honored to be among them. Better luck next year, guys. <G>

Again, I extend a sincere thank you to everyone, and just as last year’s defending champion (Andy) put his Title on the line this year, I too, plan to compete in the CC>CC’s 3rd Annual Poker Tournament.

BTW – My own souvenir Tournament Chip-Set (each piece), has been signed by Gene Trimble and Bobby Thompson (scanned side), and Kevin Norris (other side) and neither side is the "edge"<g>. Interestingly enough, a fellow collector asked me to sign a set of Tournament Chips, which I did. Perhaps this is an instance where the word "rare" applies, as they are one-of-a-kind and so far, I’ve refused to sign another set, even my own. <G>

If I have overlooked anyone’s efforts, please forgive, and thank you again.

No longer "silent," Jim Follis
