Convention Update

It’s over, the last chip has been traded and the CC>CC 2000 convention is part of history. A tremendous success, the convention headed by Wayne Thompson and Belinda Hixon brought together close to 100 dealers and hundreds and hundreds of our club members. This would not have been possible without the countless hours of help from all of our great volunteers who manned registration, membership, and the club sales table, plus those who helped set up and tear down the floor tables and moved display cases. e can’t forget those who helped with advance publicity, programs, seminars, the auction, and on and on. Thanks to all of them we had one of the best conventions ever and without their help the show would not exist.

It was great to renew old friendships and to make new ones and put a face with an e-mail name. The club signed up 56 new regular members, 45 Associate members, and 3 Life Members. Your club now has 2386 active members with R-4885 being the latest number issued. The show was probably the best attended show we have held with hundreds and hundreds of members and walk in attendees.

The Early Bird Reception hosted about 400 members who enjoyed the fine fixins and drinks. Many awards were presented and the Hall of Fame honored some new members. The trade session started at 7:00 and lasted till ….. the last collector threw in the towel.

Over 95 members attended the business meeting on Thursday night and the auction hosted a room full of bidders and watchers., so many that extra chairs had to be brought in. The Last Dance trade session on Saturday put a cap on the week’s events with another room full of eager chippers and tokeners that just didn’t want to give up. The Silver Strikers Chapter, largest chapter in our club had representatives at the club table to sign up new members and held their annual meeting at the convention.

Some of our expert master collectors produced some excellent seminars that were educational and very well attended.

For the 1999-2000 club year we signed up 649 new members for a net gain of 279 over June last year. We have members from 49 states and 12 foreign countries. The Member Directory has 1983 entries listing name, address, phone, and collecting interests. Greg Susong won the sponsor award for signing up 29 members last year. Your club now has 12 chapters across the country to provide local access for collectors to meet and trade.

2001 is not far off. If you aren’t at the Orleans in 2001, you’ll lose on a sure bet.
