I don't think so in this particular case. I have a couple of reasons:

1) the flat edge is the same thickness as the rest of the chip. I would think that the flat edge would be thicker. (see scan)

2) It does not have a finished, smooth edge. (see scan)

3) the inside of the hole is dark or dirty. This would signify that it was hanging from a key ring or such.
