I think Delivery Confirmation is a waste...
In Response To: Another Missing Chip Question ()

Delivery Confirmation is an easy, quick 35 cents for the post office but isn't worth much, IMNTBHO. Your 35 cents does NOT buy ANY ACCOUNTABILITY on the part of the post office.

It's kind of 'fun' to go online and 'track' the package but that's really all you get out of your 35 cents.

The package can be tampered with anywhere along the route, it can be 'lost in the mail', it can be stolen off the recipiant's front porch AFTER delivery is confirmed; lots of possibilities. In EVERY scenerio, the sender is out the package AND his 35 cents... unless you buy postal insurance. The post office won't even refund your 35 cents if the package is 'lost in the mail' and 'delivery' is never 'confirmed'.

BIG companies like Home Shopping Network like it because even with paying the 35 cents, it's generally a lot cheaper to send smaller items by mail than it is with UPS. A few lost or stolen packages is the 'cost of doing business' for megacompanies like HSN. Delivery Confirmation helps HSN reduce fraud because the buyer knows/believes that HSN can 'prove' the package was delivered. Luckily, most people don't think of the other possibilities. The post office and most large companies do maintain data bases to help isolate scam artists, "bad" neighborhoods, etc. , but that's another topic.

But keep buying Delivery Confirmation... Contract Negotiations are coming up! <<gg>>
